AIW Events

Whether you’re becoming an AIW School or coach, you’ll need to attend the appropriate events to complete the training prcoess. If you’re just starting the process, then it may be a bit early for you to attend an event. Make sure you download our guide, Becoming an AIW School, which helps you through the steps.

AIW Coaching Cohort

Screen Shot 2016-05-03 at 8.58.22 AMThis 2016-17 academic year the Center for AIW will offer AIW local coaching. Local Capacity is critical to sustaining any educational reform. Schools pursuing Authentic Intellectual Work are encouraged to send lead staff to join a local coach cohort. These Local Coaches become the site’s vision-keepers of the reform.

Note: Fall, Winter and Spring Institutes are automatically included in your registration.

AIW Unit Planning Cohort—FALL 2016

Unit planning ImageThe focus of Unit Planning is to develop and score units, maximizing what AIW has to offer, as well as build more local capacity at schools. The learning is individualized for each participant, through collaboration with others across districts.

WHO: Participants are encouraged to attend as pairs who ideally will both teach the unit they create. Additional criteria includes: Previous scoring experience with instruction, tasks and student work, willingness to engage in the process with a growth mindset and experience with the content/course for which the unit is being created.

WHEN & WHERE: The cohort will convene three time during the fall semester, each at a participating Iowa school district:

  • Kick-off: September 16, 20168:15 am to 4 pm at Nevada Community schools, IA
  • October 20-21, 2016, at Indianola CSD
  • January 30-31, 2017, at Fairfield CSD
